What is Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve?

Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is a natural park and conservation area located in southwest Austin, Texas. It is the largest privately owned conservation property in Central Texas. The Wild Basin property is bordered by the Colorado River, Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake. It lies in the Texas Hill Country, the oldest land in Texas. The preserve is home to more than 200 species of rare and endangered plants, 130 species of birds and nine species of endangered and threatened wildlife species. The preserve is also a critical wetlands habitat that is home to more than 1,800 species of wildlife that depend on it for survival. The preserve is also a great place for outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, birding, wildlife watching and more. Throughout the year, the preserve hosts many nature programs, including an ecology camp and a nature camp. Important Information About Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

Location: Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is located in southwest Austin and lies between the Colorado River, Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake. Hours: The preserve is open from 8:00 a.m. to Sunset. guests are welcome to visit the preserve until 7:00 p.m. A member of the staff will be on the grounds 24 hours a day to assist visitors and provide information. No pets are allowed on the preserve grounds. Admission: Advance tickets for visitors can be purchased for $12 per person and each adult ticket is good for one visit to the preserve. Best Time to Visit Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve

The best time to visit Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is between March and October. This is the best time to see wildlife in the preserve and enjoy some warm weather. It is also a great time to hike and explore the preserve. Winter months can get pretty cold and harsh, so this is not recommended. During the spring and summer months, you will find the preserve very busy due to its many nature programs, horseback riding tours and special events. You will also find that the natural landscapes are at their peak and in their most colorful. During the winter months, the preserve is generally not very crowded. You can visit the preserve during this time too, but make sure to bring warm clothing, as the temperatures can drop very low.

Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is located in southwest Austin. This is very close to downtown Austin and easy to get to via car or public transportation.
